Sobhita Dhulipala, acclaimed for her mature and in-depth acting performances, has made her screen presence felt with several Bollywood and South blockbusters. However, one of her strongest performances, or rather her highest-rated one as per IMDb, came in a 2024 Hollywood action thriller, ‘Monkey Man’, which unfortunately was never released in India.

The R-rated movie, directed by ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ actor Dev Patel, features him as a nameless young man, wearing a monkey mask, on a mission of revenge against the corrupt officials responsible for his mother's murder.

In ‘Monkey Man’, Sobhita Dhulipala plays the role of Sita, a call girl who caters to powerful and morally questionable men. Playing a complex and layered character, her role added immense depth to the narrative and eventually helped Patel’s character in his quest for vengeance.

The movie won immense praise soon after its release in the US but was embroiled in a reported censor battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India. Rumors say that the censor board asked for cuts and changes which the makers did not agree to, hence it was never released in the country nor is it available to stream on any platform in India.

‘Monkey Man’ marked Dhulipala’s debut in Hollywood as well as Dev Patel's first experience in directing a movie. As of now, it has an 89% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 6.8 grade on IMDb and is available to stream in the US and several other countries.
