The skyrocketing price of tomatoes has emerged as a nationwide concern. The price of tomatoes is surging steadily over the past few weeks due to erratic weather conditions and a shortage in supply. The price of tomatoes per kilogram ranges above Rs 150. While several people have stopped buying the red veggie, others prefer buying it in small quantities.
Undoubtedly, the rising price of tomatoes has extremely affected Indian kitchens and is burning holes in the pockets of consumers. Well, such a condition is quite common among lower and middle-class families. However, would you ever believe that any top Bollywood celebrity admits to suffering the same situation?
Though hard to believe, it is true. The rising price of tomatoes has badly affected Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty. Recently, during an interview with Aaj Tak, the Hera Pheri actor admitted that he has been cutting back on his tomato consumption due to the sharp price rise.
Shetty, fondly dubbed as ‘Anna’ was quoted as saying, "My wife, Mana, only buys vegetables for one or two days, we believe in eating fresh produce. The prices for tomatoes are skyrocketing these days, and this has affected our kitchen as well. I eat fewer tomatoes these days."
Further, Anna added, "People might think that since I'm a superstar, these things wouldn't affect me. But that isn't true as we have to deal with such issues as well."
Well, Shetty isn't the only one affected by the rising tomato prices. Last week, burger giant McDonald's also shared that they were serving products without tomatoes due to the price hike.
