Bollywood's 'once upon a time IT couple' Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor (Khan) were last seen in 2007's romantic drama Jab We Met. Helmed by Imtiaz Ali, the movie was both commercially and critically successful. While the catchy soundtrack of the blockbuster movie still remains iconic, Shahid and Kareena's performances as Aditya and Geet, respectively, left an enduring impact on moviegoers. Not Shahid, Jab We Met Was For Bobby Deol!
During a recent interview with Instant Bollywood, Bobby Deol shared his experience of getting removed from the beloved romantic film Jab We Met. The Animal actor also revealed that he played a key role in its early development alongside Kareena and Imtiaz. However, he was unexpectedly cut from the project which left him deeply disheartened.
Recounting the incident, Bobby Deol shared how he first came across the concept of Jab We Met. The Race 3 actor recalled that it was during the viewing of the early cut of Socha Na Tha, directed by Imtiaz Ali and featuring Bobby's cousin Abhay Deol, the Poster Boys actor was captivated by the filmmaker's storytelling. Bobby encouraged Imtiaz to craft a script specifically for him. That initial idea eventually evolved to become Jab We Met.
Bobby said, "I invested a lot of effort into getting that film made. I contacted numerous people."
Further, he revealed playing a critical role in bringing the production company Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision into the picture. The producers were enthusiastic about working with Bobby Deol but were hesitant about backing Imtiaz Ali's project, as he was still a fresh face in the industry.
However, Bobby managed to convince the producers of the collaboration and convinced them to give the up-and-coming director a chance.
Kareena Turned Down Geet's Role!
Further, Bobby approached Kareena through an acquaintance to offer her the role of female lead. However, Bebo wasn't interested. Next, the offer went to Preity Zinta, who declined at that time. However, she indicated that she might reconsider in future.
Well, despite all the groundwork and dedication for the project, Bobby was removed from the movie. He was replaced by Shahid Kapoor. Meanwhile, Bebo changed her mind and took on the role.
Recounting the incident, Bobby admitted, "It hurt a lot. I was quite disappointed back then."

However, he didn't hold any grudge against Imtiaz Ali and acknowledged that the filmmaker had to make a tough decision in favour of the film's vision and outcome. Well, Bobby's revelations after 18 years will certainly leave many shocked.
