Shahid Kapoor opened up about the challenges he faced when initially compared to the Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan during his early days in the film industry in a recent interview.
Kapoor in an interview with Pinkvilla expressed his disdain for the notion that emulating a successful person automatically guarantees success. Describing it as the "worst thing" that can happen, he emphasized the importance of individuality in the entertainment industry.
"Why should you be the next anything? You are you, and they are they. And that is the worst part of the job that you are doing, that you must be like somebody who is already successful," remarked Shahid, labelling the logic of mirroring someone else's success as the "dumbest" he has encountered.
He stressed the need for authenticity, likening it to offering varied ice cream flavours instead of sticking to one. Shahid urged individuals to be true to themselves, asserting that mimicking someone else's persona is a disservice to one's own potential. He encouraged aspiring talents to strive for uniqueness, aiming to be a flavour that stands out and eventually captivates audiences.
Acknowledging the pervasive pressure on young talents to conform to comparisons, Shahid highlighted the unhealthy nature of moulding oneself based on external expectations. He admitted that such comparisons persist, leading young talents to model themselves after established figures.
As for his own journey, Shahid shared that in recent years, he has consciously endeavoured to be authentic to himself.
On the professional front, Shahid Kapoor, last seen in Ali Abbas Zafar's movie "Bloody Daddy," anticipates the release of an untitled feature alongside Kriti Sanon, marking a new chapter in his career.
