Aamir on 'Salman and SRK Planning to End His Career'

During a recent interview with the podcast channel Just Too Filmy, Aamir revealed why he thought that Salman and Shah Rukh were planning to end his career.

When the PK actor was asked whether his film choices align with audience expectations, he said that he has always followed his instincts rather than catering to trends.

Citing examples of Lagaan, Peepli Live, and Dangal, Aamir said that he chose these films based on personal conviction rather than box office predictions.

However, he stated that though he loved the script of Dangal, he was initially reluctant to play the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat. The Laal Singh Chaddha actor said that he hesitated to play the role of an ageing father with a bulky physique as he had just completed Dhoom 3, where he looked much younger and fitter.

Amid his reluctance, he also suspected that Salman and Shah Rukh had sent filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari with Dangal's script with the intention of ending his career.

"Mujhe laga yeh Salman ya Shah Rukh ke log hain, jo mujhe baahar karna chahte hain," said Aamir.

While Nitesh Tiwari was adamant about casting only Aamir in the role, the Lagaan actor suggested the filmmaker wait 10-15 years. Surprisingly, Tiwari agreed stating that he wouldn't make the film with anyone.

Though reluctant initially, Aamir found himself unable to shake off the impact of Dangal's story.

"The script was so powerful that I couldn't let it go, even if it meant taking a risk with my career," said Aamir.

Well, finally Aamir gave a nod to Dangal and the rest is history. Dangal not only emerged as the biggest blockbuster of 2016, with its glorious records in China, the movie became the highest-grossing Indian film globally, with an estimated worldwide gross of Rs 2000 crore.
