Rowdy Rathore (2012), starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, was a full-on masala entertainer directed by Prabhu Deva. The film marked Akki’s return to hardcore action after several years of predominantly doing comedy roles. With its perfect blend of action, romance, and unforgettable dialogues like “Don’t angry me!”, the movie became a massive crowd-puller and a box office hit.
Now, fans have something to cheer about, as the makers are gearing up for the sequel. Latest reports suggest that the script has been locked, and the project is expected to go on floors soon.
Script Locked for Rowdy Rathore 2!
According to an exclusive report by Zoom, the script for Rowdy Rathore 2 has finally been locked. A source informed Zoom that the project is progressing steadily and preparations are underway for the film to go on floors in the near future.
The report quoted an insider, saying, “The producers of Rowdy Rathore have finally locked the script for its sequel. They are extremely confident about how it has shaped up, and believe it’s poised to be a massive project in the making.”
Earlier Reports on Rowdy Rathore 2
Interestingly, earlier reports by Bollywood Hungama had suggested that the producers, Shabinaa Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, had scrapped Rowdy Rathore 2. Sources had claimed that the script would instead be used to create a standalone film.
The earlier report mentioned that Disney India, which held the intellectual property rights to the 2012 film, along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, after acquiring Ronnie Screwvala’s UTV Motion Pictures, were not confident enough to greenlight the sequel at that time.
If the recent reports are anything to go by, Rowdy Rathore 2 is expected to be directed by Prem, who has previously helmed Dhruv Sarja's upcoming KD- The Devil, also starring Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty.
However, fans will still have to wait for an official announcement from the team before production officially begins.
