2001's flick Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein, a remake of the Tamil movie Minnale, marked the debut of actor R. Madhavan in Bollywood and actress Dia Mirza's acting debut. Though the movie didn't become commercially successful, it achieved a cult classic status. Helmed by Gautam Vasudev Menon, the romantic drama also starred Saif Ali Khan in a pivotal role.
Over time, the soundtracks designed by Harris Jayaraj gained immense love. And, even after two decades the movie and its songs remain close to the hearts of movie lovers.
In intervals, reports have been abuzz that Vashu Bhagnani, the producer, was interested in making the sequel.
Certain reports claimed that Madhavan and Dia would reprise their roles in the sequel. Meanwhile, some other reports claimed that the producer was interested in a remake of the film with his son Jackky Bhagnani in the lead.
Back then, responding to the rumours, Madhavan cleared the air on the RHTDM sequel and said that he has no clue about the sequel, however, he has his fingers crossed and hopes that someone has the right script which will be age-appropriate for the actors.
On the other hand, if the earlier reports are anything to go by, director Menon denied for remake of RHTDM with Jackky.
Such reports certainly left fans disheartened but many are still hopeful that the RHTDM team may reunite someday and bring back the old memories.
However, recently, once again Madhavan was asked about RHTDM 2 while he attended an event held to spread road safety awareness.
While talking to News 18, the actor expressed excitement when asked if RHTDM 2 is happening soon. He said, "Not that I am aware of. Actually, all of us would like to associate again and create history. It has left a wonderful taste in the mouth of the people. And, I am personally nervous for not having ruined that taste."
Well, Maddy has once again cleared the air that RHTDM 2 is not happening. And, such a statement would certainly leave many disheartened again. However, what Maddy said is even quite genuine as remaking a cult movie might not serve justice to the original and a sequel to it needs a strong script that would appropriately fit to age of the actors.
On the work front, Maddy is all set for his upcoming Shaitaan, which also stars Ajay Devgn and South actress Jyotika. The horror-thriller flick seems to be based on black magic and Maddy will be likely seen as the antagonist. Meanwhile, the movie's first look, dropped on January 25, has filled excitement among movie lovers. The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on March 8 this year.
