A senior BJP leader from Telangana G Narayan Reddy has lodged a police complaint against Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma for his derogatory tweet on NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.
Reddy has reportedly filed the complaint at Abid Road Police Station alleging that the director made a derogatory remark about Draupadi Murmu in one of his tweets. Varma’s remarks on Twitter were extremely insulting and degrading for a female politician and former governor of Jharkhand, said the BJP leader in his complaint.
Along with the complaint, Reddy has provided the tweet of RGV as proof. The politician has also reportedly insisted that the SC/ST Act should be invoked and stern action should be taken against the director.
"We came to know about a tweet by Ram Gopal Varma that said, 'If Droupadi is the President, who are the Pandavas, and more importantly, who are the Kauravas?' This tweet tantamounts to disrespecting SC-ST people...we requested police to take stern action," Reddy told ANI.
However, Ram Gopal Varma later furnished a lame apology on his Twitter handle and wrote, “This was said just in an earnest irony and not intended in any other way. Draupadi in Mahabharata is my favorite character but since the name is such a rarity I just remembered the associated characters and hence my expression. Not at all intended to hurt sentiments of anyone.”
