Why can’t a modern Indian woman on Bollywood ’s screen be independent, wearing decent clothes, and playing her part as someone who is contributing with her work and not good looks to society? But that does not seem to be the case. Ratna Pathak Shah who has always been candid about her opinions regarding Bollywood’s stereotypical portrayal of modern women in an interview said, “Nowadays the idea of a modern woman is one who smokes and drinks. Several scripts I have to turn down because ‘modern aunty kya hoti hai?’ Modern mummy kya hoti hai?’-Woh baithke sutta marti hai.”
