Despite being an outsider, her impressive track record and success have cemented her place in South as well as Bollywood. However, her recent statement of claiming to be 'first Coorgi actor' has drawn heavy criticism from cinephiles, peers and the Kodava Community.
What Did Rashmika Say?
During a recent interview with Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story, Rashmika Mandanna claimed to be the 'first Coorgi actor'. Talking about her family's reaction when she told them that she wanted to become an actor, Rashoo said, "Conversations back home when I got my first paycheck weren’t easy. Because, you know, in the Coorg community, nobody has ever entered the film industry. I think I am the first one in our whole community to have entered the industry. People were extremely judgy.”
Rashoo's Ignorance!
The Animal actor's statement took the internet by storm, and many were quick to point out that long before Rashmika's debut, many from the Community had established themselves. Moreover, a simple search for 'actors from Coorg' on Google reveals the list of artists from the community who have established themselves in the Industry. While many called it her ignorance, people from the Kodava Community are miffed at the actress.
Kodava Community Slams Rashoo!
Famous Kannada actor Neravanda Prema, who was famous in the 1990s and early 2000s, recently shared her views on Rashoo's claims. According to a report by Koduga Express, Prema said, "What is there for me to say? The Kodava community knows the truth. You should ask her (Rashmika) about her version of the statement. What can I say about it?”
She also said that long before Rashoo's debut, several others from the community had paved the way for her.
Prema noted, "Before me, there was an actor, Shashikala from Coorg, who played supporting roles. Then I entered the film industry, and later many Kodavas have done well."
Meanwhile, reacting to the statement on YouTube, a fumed user wrote, "She is only the actress who tell lie in front of media and people … Statement “ she is the first actress who came from Coorg city… “100% false statement…Thr was more then 5 to 6 actress who came from coorg …. Even she not born when “Prema madam “ act in OM Kannada movie who from Coorg." (sic)
Another wrote, "She is not the first frm kodava community ...before that many artist have acted." (sic)
