As the debate around artificial intelligence in cinema heats up, filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding the AI-altered re-release of the 2013 film Raanjhanaa.

Speaking at the teaser launch of his upcoming war drama 120 Bahadur, Akhtar expressed unwavering support for the original creators of any film whose vision is altered without consent.

Farhan Speaks on Creative Integrity

When asked about the uproar over Eros International's decision to modify Raanjhanaa’s ending using AI, Akhtar made his stance clear:

“I will always stand with the creator. If the creator of the film is unhappy about their work being changed, I support them. That’s where my loyalty lies,” he said, distancing himself from the technical details but firmly backing director Anand L Rai and actor Dhanush, who have both voiced disapproval of the change.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani Echoes Support

Excel Entertainment co-founder Ritesh Sidhwani echoed Akhtar's sentiment, stressing that no creative work should be altered without the original filmmaker’s consent.

“AI should be used smartly — to enhance, not override,” he added.

A Glimpse into 120 Bahadur

Akhtar is set to portray Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Shaitan Singh Bhati in 120 Bahadur, a gripping war drama based on the 1962 Battle of Rezang La. The film tells the tale of 120 Indian soldiers who held off over 3,000 Chinese troops. Directed by Razneesh Ghai, the film aims to inspire more storytellers to delve into India's rich history of courage.

As the AI vs creativity debate continues, voices like Farhan Akhtar’s serve as a powerful reminder that artistic integrity must always come first. 120 Bahadur hits theatres on November 21.
