Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam-starrer OMG 2 is raking in great numbers despite being surrounded by different controversies before its release. After several modifications and cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the movie made headlines after it got an ‘A’ certificate.
Several ‘under-aged’ children, including child actor Aarush Varma, were disheartened for not being able to watch the movie in theatres. Even the cuts and modifications in the movie failed to sync properly with the maker’s objective to present the social taboo throughout the movie. The cast including the director Amit Rai took a dig at the Board for its decision.
However, there’s some good news for cine lovers who missed out on the real charm of the movie and the disorderly way of presenting the story. As per the latest reports, the movie will be released on OTT including the scenes removed by the Censor Board.
In a recent interview, Amit Rai confirmed that the version to be released on OTT will be inclusive of all the scenes removed by the Board before theatrical release.
Rai was quoted by PTI as saying, “We have decided that we will show the original film (on streaming), a film that the censor never wanted people to see, but... the public has seen the film and given their verdict. If the Censor Board doesn’t understand it, what do we say?”
So, here’s what you can expect in the uncut version of OMG 2 which was originally shot and included in the movie.
1. To begin with, Akshay Kumar, who was to play Lord Shiva, is seen as the messenger of God. Though throughout the movie, he is presented as Lord Shiva, it later was modified to portray him as the messenger. But, in the uncut version, Akki will certainly retain his original character.
2. Secondly, the frontal nudity was removed in OMG 2 and replaced with suitable visuals of Naga Sadhus. Those scenes will probably remain intact in the OTT version.
3. Several scenes of the movie had voiceovers which will likely get removed.
4. In an important dialogue, references to Shivling, Shri Bhagavad Gita, Upanishad, Atharvaved, Draupadi, Pandav, Krishna, Gopiyan and Raasleela were removed from the movie. Most likely, those dialogues will be back in the OTT version.
5. The scene of Akshay Kumar's character meditating and bathing, presumably also shown in the promo, was also replaced. But, the OTT version might retain the same.
6. There were scenes of Akki’s character being drunk which were suitably modified, On OTT, viewers might be able to watch the original scenes.
7. Scenes of the sex worker in the courtroom and the doctor talking about masturbation were suitably modified, both visuals and dialogues. Hopefully, the makers might include the originals.
Apart from the above cuts, several other controversial and censored dialogues and visuals that got axed by the board will likely get included in the movie.
The concept of OMG 2 is based on a mature subject that involves sex education, a subject considered taboo. The story revolves around a middle-class father raising awareness about the sensitive yet crucial topic. Written and helmed by Amit Rai, OMG 2 opened with a great response from the critics and audience alike. The movie is inching closer to Rs 130 crore after 15 days of its release. As per Sacnilk.com, OMG 2 has earned roughly Rs 128.22 crore net in all languages.
