Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara was released digitally about four years ago. The film, directed by Mukesh Chhabra, was released after Sushant died. A few months ago, Mukesh had hinted at the sequel to the 2020 film. However, he has now decided not to make Dil Bechara 2.
In an interview with News18, Chhabra revealed his initial intentions to pursue a sequel, as indicated by his tweet on the matter. However, he ultimately recognised the irreplaceable nature of ‘Dil Bechara’ and its association with Sushant. "Dil Bechara is a very special film for me because of so many emotions attached to it and, of course, Sushant. So, I realised that I shouldn’t touch that film," he affirmed.
Chhabra added that he was making a film which he wanted to name Dil Bechara 2. However, the director believes that the title will always belong to Sushant. He emphasized his commitment to preserving the integrity and beauty of the original film, opting not to exploit its success for commercial gain.
Reflecting on his collaboration with Sushant, Chhabra recalled discussions about potential future projects, highlighting his preference for working with familiar faces, akin to his collaborations with Ayan Mukerji and Ranbir Kapoor.
‘Dil Bechara,’ adapted from John Green's novel "The Fault In Our Stars," depicted the poignant journey of two cancer patients portrayed by Sushant and Sanjana. The film also featured Sahil Vaid, Saswata Chatterjee, and Swastika Mukherjee in pivotal roles.
