The Nightingale of India had fallen silent on this day last year, but her legacy continues to live on through her mesmerizing voice. On the occasion of her first death anniversary, people from all walks of life paid rich tributes to legendary singer and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar.
Called Swar Kokila by her legion of fans, the veteran singer had died at the age of 92 after suffering a multiple-organ failure at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on February 6, 2022.
Remembering Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik on Monday created a 6 feet high sand sculpture at Puri beach with the message 'Tribute to Bharat Ratna Lata Ji, Meri Awaaaz Hi Pehechan Hai'.
Singer Anup Jalota also paid tribute to Lata Mangeshkar and wrote, "Humble tribute to #BharatRatna Shri #Latamangeshkar ji, Swar Kokila, who raised the honor of India and Hindi music worldwide with her melodious voice."
Born in Indore in 1929, Lata was the eldest daughter of Marathi and Konkani musician Deenanath Mangeshkar. She got a break in her career when she rendered her first Hindi song “Mata ek sapoot ki duniya badal de tu” for the Marathi film Gajaabhaau (1943).
She had sung more than 15,000 songs in 36 languages and was considered the nightingale of Indian cinema. She is the recipient of the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Awards and three National Film Awards.
