Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan are scheduled to release on the same day on 11th August. Both Akshay and Aamir badly need a big hit. Akshay’s last release Prithviraj tanked disastrously at the box office, whereas Aamir’s Thugs of Hindostan was a dud. Despite having huge budgets and a spectacular star cast and being backed by a big production house like YRF, these movies could not attract the audience to the theaters.
The way Aamir Khan’s upcoming movie Laal Singh Chaddha is being trolled on social media; there is already a lot of negativity around it. So who will win at the box office next weekend? The advance booking for the movie has already started and the initial bookings can give an indication of the inclination of the audience.
The first-day figures for advance booking for Laal Singh Chaddha seem to be quite satisfactory. The current figures as published by Amar Ujala, indicate that Aamir Khan’s movie has been able to collect Rs 65 lacs until now whereas Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan has collected Rs 47 lacs. So both the movies are getting an equal response and there is a possibility that whatever the result, the fate of the two movies will be almost the same.
Poll results conducted by a few leading portals indicate that Raksha Bandhan has a better chance of doing great business as compared to Aamir Khan’s movie. Firstly, the movie is being released on Raksha Bandhan and is based on the topic of brotherly sisterly love which is the highlight of that day. Secondly, as compared to LSC, Akshay’s movie is of shorter duration, and thirdly, it is directed by Aanand L Rai who is known to create magic when it comes to emotional drama.
For Laal Singh Chaddha things that can go against it because it is an adaptation of the Hollywood movie Forest Gump and hence many already know its story. Secondly, Aamir Khan has been receiving a lot of flak for his earlier controversial comments which may stop a certain section of the audience from watching his movies.
