Shah Rukh Khan has etched his name in history yet again—this time by becoming the first Indian male actor to walk the prestigious red carpet of the Met Gala.

Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the 2025 edition of the event saw SRK stealing the spotlight with his regal presence, heartfelt humility, and fashion-forward look, making it one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

A Grand Entrance in Classic SRK Style

As Shah Rukh stepped out of his hotel, fans waiting outside erupted in chants of "SRK! SRK!" despite heavy rain. Videos showed him greeting fans with flying kisses, warm smiles, and even a few handshakes.

His arrival was nothing short of a spectacle, with Sabyasachi later revealing that SRK’s appearance nearly caused a stampede outside the venue.

SRK chose a sharp all-black ensemble designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee, paired with layers of gold jewellery, stacked rings, and a statement cane topped with a tiger head.

The standout piece? A bold necklace featuring the letter 'K'—a powerful nod to his iconic title, King Khan. The look perfectly balanced elegance, drama, and personal symbolism.

A Proud Dad Moment: How His Children Inspired the Debut

Surprisingly, the Met Gala debut wasn’t Shah Rukh’s idea. He revealed that it was his children—Suhana, Aryan, and AbRam Khan—who encouraged him to take the plunge.

“I’m very nervous and excited,” SRK confessed. “I’m actually very shy… I was wondering if I could just run away from this now.”

'When Sabyasachi suggested it, my kids went ‘wow’. I don’t know if it was ‘wow’ for me though,” he joked. But in true cool dad fashion, he showed up and gave them something to brag about: “Dad did his thing. I’ll be so cool on the carpet for my kids.”

Global Spotlight and Controversial Moments

While SRK’s appearance was widely celebrated, one red carpet moment stirred controversy. A now-viral video shows Shah Rukh introducing himself to a red carpet host who appeared not to recognize him.

‘I’m Shah Rukh,’ he says, before calmly discussing the significance of the Met Gala. Fans were quick to express disappointment, criticizing global media for not recognizing one of the world’s biggest movie stars.

‘It’s 2025. If you’re covering the Met Gala, you should know who Shah Rukh Khan is,’ one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Others hoped the press would ‘Google him and see how popular he really is.’

On Fashion, Freedom, and Art

When asked about the meaning behind his look, SRK explained, “My designer, Sabyasachi, thought of it as an expression of freedom and trying to be resolute and resilient against things that can oppress you.”

He admitted he wasn’t familiar with the Met Gala before, but took the time to understand its artistic value over the past 20 days. “The resolve to change things without oppression or anger, but with the exuberance of art… that was marvelous,” he said.

This year’s theme, ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,’ explored the history and evolution of Black fashion as a cultural and political force. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion, the event celebrated art as a tool of identity and resistance—ideas Shah Rukh echoed in his appearance and remarks.

Celebrity Reactions and Internet Meltdown

As soon as SRK’s photos dropped, the internet went wild. Fans flooded social media with admiration, calling him a ‘legend’ and ‘the pride of India.’ Actress Alia Bhatt also chimed in with a heartfelt “legend” comment, showing support for her friend and co-star.

His manager, Pooja Dadlani, gave fans a sneak peek earlier in the evening, sharing striking portraits of the star dressed for the event. And during the actual red carpet, SRK gave fans the moment they were hoping for—his iconic pose, arms spread wide, radiating the charisma that has defined his three-decade-long career.

India at the Met: A Growing Presence

Joining Shah Rukh Khan at the Met Gala 2025 were other prominent Indian personalities including Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, Diljit Dosanjh, Isha Ambani, and Natasha Poonawalla, highlighting the growing global influence of Indian fashion and cinema.
