One of fashion industry’s luxury brands, the UK based Vivienne Westwood, held their first ever show in India on April 1. Organised at Mumbai’s iconic Gateway of India, the event saw the entirety of Bollywood descend at Colaba. Celebrities like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mira Rajput, Rohit Saraf, Disha Patani, Radhika Merchant, Anjali Merchant, Aditya Roy Kapur, Vijay Verma,, Manushi Chhillar, Janhavi Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna, Patralekha, Vaani Kapoor among others, marked their attendance at the high profile fashion carpet, with more than most of them wearing Vivienne Westwood creations in honour of the late designer.
The brand show in Mumbai was in honour of celebrating and showcasing India’s rich artisanal textile heritage. The collection that the brand showcased at the do were Spring Summer 2025 Vivienne Westwood custom looks and special archive pieces, alongside a capsule collection of Vivienne Westwood couture looks crafted with the finest hand-woven Chanderi silks and Khadi cotton, wool and silks - a fabric reinvigorated by Mahatma Gandhi and often associated as a symbol of freedom in India.
India has been slowly but surely emerging and matching shoulders with the global fashion scene off lately. With Indian designers like Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla, Gaurav Gupta, Falguni & Shane Peacock, Rahul Mishra, Manish Malhotra among others, having dressed the Hollywood elite, and with stars like Mouni Roy also representing India on the global stage at fashion weeks across the world, the bridge between India and the international fashion scene, seems to be decreasing 'one fashion show at a time'!
