Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani celebrates ace Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar’s return and his 25 years in the industry. Ever since the release of RARKPK on July 28, 2023, the movie has received immense love and appreciation from the audience. Within 10 days of its release, the movie has already made a thunderous entry into the Rs 200-crore club (Global box office collection).
Fans have been showering love for the entire cast for their stellar performance, including veteran actors like Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, though some raised eyebrows over the kissing scene of Dharam and Shabana.
Well, ever since the release of ‘What Jhumka’ song from the movie, the audience has been drawing comparisons between RARKPRK and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G). Several viewers went on to state that how Rocky gazes at Rani in the song, it is quite similar to how Rahul looks at Anjali in K3G. Following the release of the movie, several even went on to claim that there were several moments in RARKPRK that reminded them of K3G. Even Jaya repeating the famous dialogue of Amitabh in K3G, ‘Keh Diya Na Bas Keh Diya’ fuelled the buzz.
However, helmer KJo believes that it is sometimes okay to repeat what he has already done and it also works well every time.
During an interview with BBC Asian Network, Karan said, “I just knew I wanted them to have that moment when she was dancing and he was looking at her. While shooting I realized oh my God, this looks like Shah Rukh Khan looking at Kajol and I’m repeating myself but I wanted this moment in the song. Some clichés are meant to be repeated. I definitely can’t call it original but it works every time.”
Further, Karan also accepted that he entirely copied RARKPK’s hand-holding moment at the funeral from K3G.
Talking about the iconic dialogue, ‘Keh Diya Na...Bas Keh Diya,’ Karan said, Jaya Bachchan’s scene in RARKPK, which was originally said by Amitabh Bachchan in K3G, received immense applause. However, he also revealed that the dialogue wasn’t planned initially. The dialogue was decided on the spot when Jaya said, “Bas Keh Diya.” That was the moment when it struck KJo.
