The recent official announcement of Tollywood Rebel Star Prabhas signing a three-film contract with Hombale Films has elevated excitement among all. Even the production team shared a thrilling video announcing the commencement of Salaar: Part 2- Shouryanga Parvam shooting. While the Mirchi actor is currently gearing up for The Raja Saab's release, fans are excited for his other much-awaited flick Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD sequel. However, the recent buzz on social media is that Ashwin has either shelved the Kalki 2898 AD sequel or put the project on hold.
Notably, Prabhas was last seen in Nag Ashwin's epic dystopian sci-fi action drama Kalki 2898 AD which ended on a cliffhanger. Also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani, Kalki 2898 AD received mixed reviews. While some called it a cinematic marvel and hailed Ashwin's vision and excellence in weaving together mythological grandeur with cutting-edge science fiction, others pointed out that Ashwin distorted Hindu scriptures and disrespectfully portrayed Lord Kalki. However, despite that, the movie's global box office collection crossed Rs 1100 crore.
Those who loved the movie are eagerly waiting for the sequel and anticipating updates on the movie as the makers left the plot unsolved and hinted at a sequel.
Amid this, the social media is abuzz that might be working on a female-centric project, which he is best at. Reportedly, Ashwin will team up with Alia Bhatt as the lead character perfectly fits the Raazi girl. While the storyline remains under wraps, sources say that the character is tailor-made for Alia, who has loved her mettle in female-led projects.

Following this, social media is abuzz that either Ashwin has put Kalki 2898 AD sequel on hold or shelved it as the movie didn't yield profit as expected. Investing another Rs 500 crore could be risky. Even some have opined that though Ashwin is a skilled director, he couldn't handle the scale and epic scope and ended up delivering a half-baked movie.
Earlier, many opined that the first half was extremely boring, the second half was comparatively better with the climax being the best part.
According to a report by M9, after Alia Bhatt's female-centric project, Ashwin may consider the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. Even Prabhas is busy with The Raja Saab and Saalar 2 after which he will work on Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit and Hanu Raghavapudi's Fauji. So, in the meantime, Ashwin will work on the female-centric project with Alia.

If the reports are anything to go by, Ashwin's yet-to-be-titled project will be produced under Vyjayanthi Films and will expectedly start shooting in the second half of 2025.
However, there is no official confirmation backing the claims. Fans need to wait for an official confirmation from the makers.
