Actor Vaani Kapoor is no stranger to challenges in the entertainment industry. From being rejected for her skin tone to facing constant body-shaming, the Mandala Murders star has weathered it all with resilience and self-love.
In a candid interview with News18, Vaani reflected on her early struggles and how she has grown stronger through them.
“Not Fair Enough for a Role”
Recalling a painful incident from the beginning of her career, Vaani revealed that she lost out on a film because of her complexion. “A filmmaker had once said that I wasn’t fair enough to land a role. He said that I wasn’t ‘milky white’,” she shared.
Though the comment didn’t come directly to her, she learned about it through others. Instead of letting such remarks crush her spirit, Vaani chose to hold on to her self-belief.
On Body-Shaming for Being Skinny
Even today, Vaani often hears comments about her slim frame. “People say I’m too skinny and that I should put on some weight because they like women with fuller bodies. But I like me! I don’t want to change anything about myself. I’m fit and healthy. I think I’m pretty okay and I like who I am,” she said confidently.
A Bold Role in ‘Mandala Murders’
Vaani is now gearing up for the release of Mandala Murders, a crime thriller where she plays a no-nonsense investigative officer.
Set in the mysterious town of Charandaspur, the series unravels ritualistic killings tied to a centuries-old secret society.
Co-directed by Gopi Puthran and Manan Rawat, the show premieres on Netflix on July 25 and also stars Surveen Chawla, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Vaibhav Raj Gupta.
