A decade after its original release, the critically acclaimed biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is set to return to the big screen on 18 July, rekindling the inspiring journey of Milkha Singh, the legendary Indian athlete fondly remembered as ‘The Flying Sikh’.
A Story That Transcends Generations
Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the 2013 film chronicled Milkha Singh’s extraordinary life, from surviving the horrors of Partition to becoming one of India’s greatest sprinters. With medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, Singh’s story became a symbol of resilience and determination for the nation.
Farhan Akhtar, who underwent an incredible transformation to portray the iconic athlete, called the film “one of the most transformative journeys” of his career. “Portraying Milkha Singh, a man whose story is etched in the soul of our nation—was both an honour and a responsibility. I’m grateful audiences can experience its scale and spirit once again in theatres,” he said.
“A Personal Tribute” – Mehra
For Mehra, the film remains deeply personal. “Telling Milkha Singh Ji’s story was a big responsibility. Even today, the film inspires. This re-release honours his indomitable spirit and celebrates the timeless magic of cinema,” the filmmaker shared.
The film also featured stellar performances by Sonam Kapoor, Divya Dutta, and Prakash Raj, each adding emotional depth to Singh’s story. Kapoor described the re-release as “a nostalgic tribute to Milkha Singh Ji’s extraordinary legacy.”
A Legacy Returns to the Big Screen
As Bhaag Milkha Bhaag gears up for its theatrical comeback, it promises to once again stir hearts, reminding audiences that courage and resilience can indeed move mountains.
