Starting February 14, 2025, Jio officially launched its JioHotstar OTT service, merging its Jio Cinema with Disney+ Hotstar. The rebranded platform is now available on multiple devices, including Android, iOS, iPadOS, and smart TVs. While users were seamlessly transitioned into the new service, there exists some doubt regarding the subscription plans and free benefits.
To aid you, first, here is how you can get a complimentary subscription to JioHotstar:
Eligibility for Free JioHotstar Subscription:
1. Active Disney+ Hotstar Subscription: If you have an active Disney+ Hotstar subscription, it will automatically transition to JioHotstar. The remaining days of your Disney+ Hotstar plan will carry over to JioHotstar.
2. Active JioCinema Subscription: Users with an active JioCinema subscription will see their plans migrate to JioHotstar. Once again, the remaining days of the current JioCinema plan will be carried over.
3. Subscription with Mobile or JioFiber/Broadband Plans: If you have Disney+ Hotstar or JioCinema Premium as part of your mobile or broadband plans, you will also receive access to JioHotstar and on opening either JioCinema or Disney+ Hotstar, users will be automatically transitioned.
How to Check Eligibility
To check if you qualify for the complimentary subscription, log into the JioHotstar app using your phone number or email address. If your subscription is still active, the app will inform you of the exact expiration date for your plan.
JioHotstar Subscription Plans
While JioHotstar offers an ad-supported free tier for casual viewers, paid plans unlock higher quality and ad-free streaming:
Mobile Plan (Rs 149/3 months or Rs 499/year):
1. HD (720p) on one mobile device.
2. Ads included.
Super Plan (Rs 299/3 months or Rs 899/year):
1. Full HD (1080p) on two devices.
2. Dolby Atmos support.
3. Ads included.
Premium Plan (Rs 299/month or Rs 1,499/year):
1. 4K resolution on four devices.
2. Ad-free (except live sports/events).
All paid tiers include unlimited live sports (cricket, football), new movie premieres, Disney+ originals, and shows in 10 languages. Additionally, you'll have access to Disney+ Originals, popular Disney movies, and kids' shows in multiple languages.
What Happens After Free Access Ends?
Existing Disney+ Hotstar or JioCinema subscribers can use JioHotstar for free until their current plan expires. After that, they must choose a paid plan. New users can explore the free ad-supported tier or opt for subscriptions starting at Rs 149.
