Who can forget the heart-wrenching scene in James Cameron’s blockbuster movie ‘Titanic’, where Rose and Jack hang on to save their lives? In a bid to save his love, Jack sacrifices himself and dies in the cold water after asking Rose to climb onto the door.
The iconic scene is still etched fresh in every movie lover’s mind. Now, the wooden slab used in the movie for the scene has fetched a whopping over Rs 5 crore ($718,750) at an auction. The movie prop was sold at the Planet Hollywood auction. The iconic wooden slab turned out to be the auction’s highest-selling item.
Apart from the wooden slab from Titanic, the props from other movies that were also auctioned included Harrison Ford’s bullwhip from 1984’s ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’, and the axe Jack Nicholson wielded in 1980’s ‘The Shining’.
Heritage Auctions announced that its recent Treasures from Planet Hollywood auction collected $15.68 million in total.
Another prototype of the same piece of wood was also sold for $125K. The outfit that Kate Winslet wore in the film scene was also sold for Rs $118, 750.
Worth mentioning, the wooden door used in the film has long been the subject of fan debate over whether both Jack and Rose could have stayed together afloat on top of the slab.
