Kalki 2898 AD trailer has wowed the audience. Each frame seems to be designed with great effort with the right use of VFX, CGI, and proper lighting. Naturally, the result is largely impactful. Therefore everyone thought that all the scenes from Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD were original given the immense efforts and the big budget that has been dedicated to this science fiction thriller.
But now Hollywood’s famous concept artist Sung Choi who has worked with Disney, Marvel Studios, and Warner Bros. has called out Vyjayanthi Movies, the makers of Kalki 2898 AD for copying his work. Well-known as a concept illustrator and designer, Choi on his social media platform has shared his artistic work that he claims to have been copied by the makers of Prabhas’ movie.
In his post, Choi penned, “Unauthorized use of the artwork is a bad practice. This makes me question doing art in this lawless environment. @Kalki2898AD @VyjayanthiFilms #kalki2898ad.” The original art piece was published on his platform ArtStation almost a decade ago.
After Sung Choi slammed Vyjayanthi Movies for plagiarism, netizens came out in his support asking him to pursue legal action and calling it awful. Another user who also is part of a design studio has said, “The whole trailer gives off the vibe of Epoch, Mad Max, dune, and other films. The trailer of the film gives me the vibe of “saga” comic book series published by image comics. A lot of designs from the trailer of the film are ripped off from the Halo series and Death Stranding too. Idk how some of the concept designers who worked on the film can stay silent. I’m tempted to make a video to point these out btw.”
Within just a few days of the release of the Kalki 2898 AD trailer people are slamming it for copying content. It would be interesting to see how the makers react to this post from Sung Choi and other allegations about plagiarism from netizens.
