A Star Who Bridged Industries

While Genelia began her journey in Hindi cinema, her career truly flourished in the South. She quickly became a household name in Telugu cinema with films like Samba (2004), Happy (2006), Naa Alludu (2005), and Orange (2010). Her ability to adapt to diverse roles, coupled with her expressive acting, earned her immense popularity among South Indian audiences.

In a recent interaction in Hyderabad, where she was promoting her comeback Telugu film Junior, co-starring Kireeti and Sreeleela, Genelia fondly recalled her early days in the industry. Speaking about her colleagues from those times, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Allu Arjun, she expressed pride in how far they have come.

Proud of Her 'Boys'

Reflecting on her bond with these superstars, Genelia said, “When I saw RRR and all, I was like wow. These are the same boys I worked with in Orange and other films. I’ve known them as friends, right? Because we all started our careers together. I’ve not been in touch, of course.”

She also admired their unique qualities and said, "But I’ve always thought of NTR as extremely gifted. He used to have three pages of dialogue; he used to just look at it and go to take. I wonder how. And Ram Charan had this amazing flair; it was just inbuilt. Allu Arjun was so energetic."

Today, seeing them as superstars, family men, and fathers, she feels a sense of pride in having shared the early stages of their journey, when they were all growing up together.

A Career Rooted in the South

Genelia openly acknowledges the South Indian film industry’s pivotal role in shaping her career.

“I owe my career to the South. I started with Tujhe Meri Kasam, but I found my footing with films like Boys and Satyam (2003). People advised me against doing certain roles, but I always followed my instinct. That’s how my career took shape,” said Genelia.

Even after making waves in Hindi cinema with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na (2008), audiences mistakenly assumed she was a newcomer—proof of how seamlessly she fit into every role she played.
