Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha, the Indian remake of Tom Hanks' 1994 Hollywood flick Forrest Gump, bombed at the box office leaving Mr Perfectionist disappointed. However, the Bollywood remake seems to have impressed Tom Hanks. Though Aamir accepted that his performance was 'not good,' Hanks hailed the remake and said that the 2022 Hindi flick needs to be celebrated.
Hailing the Indian adaptation of his movie, also starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Hanks said "It's a glorious thing to behold."
"I saw that. Extraordinary," he added.
During his interview with Zoom, Hanks said, "I think it’s a testament to how film grows on film. I think all of us have seen movies that have been incorporated into the rest of our creative process, sometimes bleakly, but sometimes very specifically."
Reflecting on the global appeal of movies like Forrest Gump, Hanks added, "Every now and again, there is a film that enters the worldwide consciousness that you cannot forget, that you cannot escape.”
"I just, I think it’s to be celebrated. It was a glorious thing to behold," he concluded.
Notably, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science (AMPAS) has described "Laal Singh Chaddha" as a "faithful" Indian adaptation of the Hollywood film "Forrest Gump". The Hindi movie is adapted by noted actor Atul Kulkarni and helmed by 'Secret Superstar' fame Advait Chandan. It also starred Tollywood actor Naga Chaitanya in a major role.
However, a section of the audience brutally trolled Aamir Khan and Laal Singh Chaddha. Post the debacle of his movie, Aamir was left heartbroken. He criticised his own performance in the movie and apologised to the audience.
