Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh is all set for her upcoming 'Metro...In Dino' which will hit the theatres on July 4. Fatima got her breakthrough role with 2016's Dangal. It is certainly a dream for many to debut alongside Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. But for Fatima, it was not. She was initially hesitant to take on Dangal alongside Aamir Khan.
Fatima Talks About Her Initial Hesitation For Dangal!
Fatima Sana Shaikh became a household name after essaying wrestler Geeta Phogat in Dangal, alongside Aamir Khan.
During her recent conversation with India Today, the actress spoke about her initial hesitation about Dangal and shared her love for giving auditions. She revealed that after auditioning for several films, she bagged Dangal. Before that, she used to attend random auditions and accepted every opportunity that came her way.
However, initially, the actress felt that she wouldn't be able to portray Geeta Phogat onscreen and conveyed the same to the makers.
"I had said no when they offered me the role. I Googled Geeta Phogat and told myself, 'This is not me, she was 49 kgs, I can't look like her'. They just told me, 'How does it matter? You just come and give the audition.' So, that's how it started," said Fatima.
Notably, Dangal remains the highest-grossing Indian film of all time with an estimated worldwide box office collection of Rs 1,914–2,200 crore.
Aamir Khan didn't Mind Romancing Fatima Onscreen
Notably, after playing Fatima's onscreen father in Dangal, Aamir teamed up with her again in 2018 for Thugs of Hindostan. However, the pairing sparked criticism and debate as the duo played romantic interests after having previously portrayed father-daughter.
Well, recently, Aamir Khan addressed the criticism and stated that he didn't mind romancing Fatima in Thugs of Hindostan.
During a conversation with Lallantop, Khan said that director Vijay Krishna Acharya (Victor) offered to remove the romantic angle between them, given their previous portrayal of father-daughter. However, Khan said that he didn't mind playing Fatima's love interest because he only played her father in a film and not in real life.
Khan said, "I don't believe in all of this. Main asal mein thode uska baap hun, aur na asal mein main uska boyfriend hun. Hum log film bana rahe hain bhai (I am not her father in real life, and neither am I her boyfriend in real life. We are making a movie)."
