Diljit Dosanjh has rocked the blue carpet of Met Gala 2025. While in India the excitement was all about Shah Rukh Khan ’s debut at the fashion event, it was Diljit who impressed with his typical royal ensemble and what’s more with the way he carried the entire look with aplomb. Many even felt that the look of the famous Punjabi singer was not according to the theme of Met Gala this year which was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Even then the impact was made and Diljit Dosanjh managed to make India proud because what he wore was a dressing style inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. The traditional turban, tehmat and kurta was designed by Prabal Gurung whereas the jewel-studded accessories took inspiration from the jewels earlier worn by the Maharaja.

Diljit Dosanjh Met Gala look has a historical connection

The get up of Diljit has a historical connection and his jewellery has also been inspired by a special piece of diamond necklace commissioned by the Maharaja of Patiala. According to the historical accounts in 1928 the Maharaja commissioned the ornament making brand Cartier to make for him a diamond necklace of around 1000 carats, one of largest piece of jewellery ever made by the French jeweller.

While Cartier tried to restore its original glory by replacing original diamonds with synthetic diamonds as well as Zirconia, it can never be built to the level of worth and beauty that it possessed earlier.
