A matrimonial ad has drawn the Internet's ire with its 'weirdly specific list' of requirements which include qualification from a “premier institutes (Tier 1)” of the country. The ad was posted by a girl seeking a groom on a matrimonial site. It has been widely circulated on social media since then.
Apart from the educational qualification, the bride also has other demands like the groom shouldn’t be born before June 1992. He should be living in Delhi/NCR only. He has to be a corporate job holder with an annual income of not less than 30 LPA.
Besides these above requirements, the ad says that the height of the groom should be between 5'7 to 6'. The suitor should have a small family, specifically 2 siblings. The ad also said preference will be given to an educated family.
However, the educational qualification requirement of the groom has become a massive topic of debate on the internet.
The ad specifies that the groom should have MBA, MTech, MS, or PGDM degrees from Tier- 1 institutes only. And if he is an engineer, he should have degrees from Tier-1 colleges namely, "IIT: Bombay, Madra, Kanpur, Delhi, Roorkee, Kharagpur, and Guwahati. NIT Calicut, Delhi, Kurukshetra, Jalandhar, Trichi, Suratkal, Warangal. IIT Hyderabad, Allahabad, Delhi, Bangalore, IISc Bangalore, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, DTU, NSIT, and Jadavpur University (Calcutta)."
And if you are an MBA, you should be from, "IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Lucknow, Kozhikode. FMS, IIFT, ISB, JBIMS, MDI, NITIE, SP jain, SJMSOM, and XLRI"- as clearly mentioned in the ad.
A screenshot of this matrimonial ad was posted online by a Twitter user Raj Kunkolienkar (@kunksed) on October 17 and since then it has gone viral on social media raising questions on the absurdity of matrimonial ads in India.
"Is she hiring a husband?" questioned a netizen while another wrote, “ “Imagine the outrage if some boy posts the same requirements.”
“Just a humble request pls show the applicants credentials too like education, height, and stuff .. just to see what is the reason behind being so specific and having requirements so hard to match!” commented a third user.
