The phenomenal success of Gadar 2 triggered the discussions around Border 2. Reports were abuzz that renowned filmmaker JP Dutta and his daughter Nidhi Dutta are all set for the sequel to revive the craze of Border. However, the veteran filmmaker quashed the rumours. Later, Sunny Deol also cleared the air over the reports of Border 2.
Furthermore, speculations were rife that Border 2 would be written and directed by Nidhi Dutta. Following that, many presumed that it would be a sequel to the 1997 classic. Some other reports also suggested that the makers of Border 2 have already started working on the script with a real-life incident in mind.
While the makers are yet to make an official announcement backing the claims, a recent report in ETimes suggests that Border 2 won't be a sequel or based on another real-life incident.
A report in Times of India quotes a close source to the development as saying, "Border 2 is not going to be a sequel, but instead it is a story that took place on the same night as Border's events."
Furthermore, the source added, "The battle Longewala was fought not just by our Indian Army but also by the Navy and Airforce. And, the story of Border 2 will recap events from the perspectives of all three wings of the Indian Armed Forces."
The source concluded by saying that the casting for the film is yet to be made, and whatever information is circulating in the media is only speculation.
Border written, produced and directed by JP Dutta was a symbolic patriotic film that paved the way for new-age war flicks. The movie set during the India-Pakistan war of 1971 was an adaptation of real-life events. The dream project of Dutta came true with a huge cast of Jackie Shroff, Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Pooja Bhatt, among others. The movie went on to become an 'All time blockbuster' with IMDb rating at 7.9/10. The imprints of the movie left on the minds and hearts of all look quite fresh even today.
