The mammoth success of Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 triggered the speculations around Border 2. Ever since then the buzz around the highly-anticipated sequel intensified with various claims. And now, it seems the much-awaited sequel is happening. As per the latest reports, Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana have signed on for Border 2.
The latest report in Pinkvilla suggests that the much-awaited sequel will be helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Singh. Further, the report suggests that the flick will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. And, the makers have plans of releasing it on January 23, 2026, coinciding with Republic Day weekend.
As per the report, the decision to release Border 2 during Republic Day weekend was a strategic one. The makers considered the film's theme of celebrating the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces. The producers believe that the date is perfect for release and it will resonate strongly with the audience.

A source revealed to the entertainment portal that Border 2 has been in the writing stage for over a year. However now, the team has cracked a script that stands to the expectations that people would have from a sequel to a mammoth all-time blockbuster like Border.
The source was quoted as saying, "Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana are very excited to embark on this journey by the end of this year."
Further, the source added, "A film of this canvas requires massive pre-production and the idea is to get some of the top talents from across the globe on board Border 2. All the stakeholders are well versed in the fact that Border is not just a film but an emotion and will be going all out to deliver an honest film to the audiences."
"It’s going to be the Biggest War Film of India,” the source added.
Notably, renowned filmmaker JP Dutta's symbolic patriotic film Border paved the way for new-age war flicks. Though there is no official announcement from the makers or the actors, Border 2 has created a significant buzz among the audience.
Earlier, reports surfaced that the much-awaited sequel to 1997's war flick Border won't be a sequel or based on another real-life incident. Rather, it will be the 'story that took place on the same night as Border's events'.
However, fans need to wait for an official confirmation either from the makers or the actors.
