Bollywood veteran Govinda has accused the film industry of orchestrating a conspiracy to sabotage his career and even planning attempts on his life.

In a candid interview with Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel Bheeshm International, the 61-year-old actor claimed he faced a pre-planned defamation campaign to push him out of Bollywood." They wanted to remove me because I was an uneducated outsider in their educated space,” he said, refusing to name those involved.

Govinda revealed the situation escalated dangerously, with armed men caught outside his residence. “Different methods to eliminate me were devised. After these conspiracies, my nature changed,” he shared.

Rejecting Rs 100 Cr Films: ‘Slapped Myself in Regret’

The actor admitted to rejecting lucrative projects worth Rs 100 crore during his career peak, a decision he later regretted. “When media wrote I had no work, I’d actually refused films with roles similar to today’s hits,” Govinda stated. He confessed to self-reproach: ‘I’d look in the mirror and slap myself, thinking, You’re mad! That money could’ve financed your future.’

Despite regrets, he defended his choices, stressing the importance of staying true to his values.

From Films to Politics: A Shift After Threats

Govinda claimed the industry’s hostility pushed him toward politics. “When conspiracies and life attempts began, I realised I needed to shift focus,” he said, without elaborating on his political journey. The actor, known for 1990s comedies like Coolie No. 1, hinted the stress altered his personality and career trajectory.

Divorce Rumors Amid Career Hiatus

Govinda’s personal life recently made headlines amid rumours of divorce from wife Sunita Ahuja after 35 years of marriage. Professionally, he has been absent from films since the 2019 flop Rangeela Raja. However, he hinted at a comeback, revealing three upcoming projects coming this year during an appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show.
