Babil Khan, son of the legendary actor Irrfan Khan, is fast emerging as a talent to watch in the Indian film industry. From his compelling performance in Qala to the much-acclaimed Railway Men and his upcoming film Logout, Babil has shown that he isn't afraid to dive into complex roles. But behind the camera-ready charm lies a story of fear, self-doubt, and emotional discovery.
"I Was Scared to Admit I Wanted to Act"
In an exclusive chat with Zoom, Babil revealed how difficult it was to embrace his passion for acting. Despite growing up in an environment deeply rooted in cinema, Babil confessed, "I was very scared of admitting it. Because I knew my father was incredible... I was running from it. The truth is, I was scared. He was so good, how could I ever be as good?" His emotional honesty reflects the daunting legacy he has inherited and the vulnerability that comes with stepping into his father's shoes.
A Life-Altering Moment
The turning point came after Irrfan Khan's untimely demise. "He passed away… and I felt, what have I been doing? I thought I had so much more time with him. When he passed, it was like the curtains fell," Babil said. That moment of loss became the spark for him to finally pursue acting wholeheartedly.
Choosing Roles from the Heart
Despite being relatively new to the industry, Babil has already begun making discerning choices. He admits that he doesn’t follow a set formula for picking roles. "I don’t think I have the experience to really 'choose' projects. I give auditions and go with what comes my way," he shared. "But whatever I do take up, I choose with my gut, not my mind."
Looking Ahead: 'Logout' Premieres April 18
After winning praise for The Railway Men in 2023, Babil is now gearing up for his next release, Logout, set to premiere on Zee5 on April 18. With his candid reflections, raw talent, and emotional intelligence, Babil Khan is carving out his own path while honouring the incredible legacy of his father.
His journey is not just about films—it’s a story of courage, vulnerability, and learning to trust your own voice.
