Sandeep Reddy Vanga has once again triggered controversy by making a comparison between efforts needed to become an IAS officer and a successful film personality. Recently during the Game Changers podcast the famous director said that people do not talk about social issues much but they talk more about Animal. His remark was related to a criticism made by Vikas Divyakriti and according to Vanga, it made him feel as if by making Animal he had committed a crime.

Vanga took an indirect dig at Vikas Divyakriti

While comparing the IAS profession with that of people in the film industry the Kabir Singh director said, “I feel that he is an IAS officer, he studied to become one. What I think is, go to Delhi, get enrolled in an institute, give 2-3 years of your life, and you can crack IAS. There will be a limited amount of books, right? You will study 1500 books...you can crack IAS. I'll give you in writing. There is no course, there is no teacher that can make you a filmmaker and a writer.”

Many believe that this statement from Sandeep Reddy Vanga was indirectly hinted at Divyakriti who last year during an interview said, “A film like Animal takes our society back by 10 years. A film like this should not be made. You earned money. You showed that your hero behaves like an animal. There should be some social value, or are people working only for financial value?”

Divyakriti is an IAS professor and he played himself in last year’s sleeper hit 12th Fail.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga faced flak for his statement

The recent statement from the movie director did not go down well and many social media users slammed him for comparing filmmaking with IAS. One of the users wrote, “This is embarrassing. He is making fun of a profession just because they criticized him. He could have written IAS, passed, and then saved us from Animal.”

Many other social media users have slammed Vanga for his statement calling it whining and embarrassing. A user shared, “So Vanga uses the top star of the country and makes a movie filled with violence and sex and thinks he is better than an IAS officer. Talk about delusion. “

Few users have sided with the Animal director

There have been a few Reddit users who have sided with Sandeep Reddy Vanga saying that what media has highlighted is not the correct picture.

Sharing his opinion one user wrote, “This headline is not remotely what he said. He said there are institutes focused on helping you learn how to become an IAS officer, and if you take their help and work hard, it’s highly likely you become an IAS officer. But the same doesn’t apply to filmmaking - just learning from an institute doesn’t guarantee you will be a good filmmaker. You need creativity, you need life experiences, you need to have good stories to tell.”

The user added, “And he isn’t at all wrong about that. He wasn’t saying it’s easier to become an IAS than to be a filmmaker. He was calling out how art is subjective, and requires a creative bent of mind.”

Comments on Vanga

Currently, there is a heated debate going on whether Sandeep Reddy Vanga was right in comparing his profession with that of IAS. Whatever the outcome this debate has helped both the Animal movie and Vanga continue to stay in the limelight.
