The announcement of Indian music maestro AR Rahman and wife Saira Banu's separation came as a shock to many when the latter's lawyer released an official statement on Tuesday night. The renowned musician and his wife ended their relationship 29 years after their marriage. Rahman shared an emotional note on social media confirming their separation.
Saira's lawyer Vandana Shah released an official statement about the couple's decision to separate.
The official statement read, On behalf and instruction of Mrs. Saira and her husband renowned musician Allahrakka Rahman (A.R. Rahman), Vandana Shah and Associates issue the following statement regarding the couple's decision to part ways." (sic)
Further, the statement read, "After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time." (sic)
"Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman emphasize that they have taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman request privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as they navigate this difficult chapter in their life,” the statement read. (sic)
Soon, Rahman's son Ameen also took to Instagram and asked followers and fans to ‘respect the family’s privacy’.
Later, Rahman himself shared an emotional note confirming their separation and requested fans to respect their privacy.
Rahman wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.” (sic) followed by a hashtag #arrsairaabreakup
For the unversed, AR Rahman tied the knot with Saira Banu in 1995. Theirs was an arranged marriage which was fixed by his mother. They are parents to three children – Khatija, Raheema and Ameen.
