Currently, the only thing that is buzzing in the entertainment industry of India is the comparison between Bollywood and Southern movies. In the last couple of months, post-pandemic, some of the big-budget flicks like RRR, Pushpa: The Rise, and KGF 2 have become pan India blockbusters and a few good Hindi movies led by Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have flopped.
That has triggered a debate on social media that the regional movies are offering better content and have a good understanding of the audience. Amid all these discussions, an old video clip of Shah Rukh Khan replying to a foreign journalist about his take on making his debut in international movies has gone viral.
The way SRK answered the journalist won many hearts. His answer was not only practical and to the context but also showed how proud he is of being a part of the Indian film industry and wants to scale it up on the global map. King Khan was one of the VIP guests at the Berlinale International Film Festival in 2008 and gave this epic reply during the press conference when a journalist asked,” You are the greatest Bollywood star but what about Hollywood? Do you ever plan to work in Dream Factory?”
As usual in his cheeky and witty style, SRK replied, “My English not good. If they give me a role of a dumb person who does not speak maybe. I am not trying to be modest but I think I’m 42 years old, I am a little brown. I do not have a special USP as an actor, I don’t have any specialty as an actor, I do not know Kung fu, I don’t dance the Latin Salsa. I am not tall enough. “
SRK further added, “I think anyone of my age in the Western world, some of the films that I have seen, some recent films in Europe, films what you call the Dream Factory. I think there is no space for me and there is no place for me. Because I do not think I am that talented so I would like to continue doing work in India and hopefully take Indian cinema to the world. That’s the ambition I have.”
