The filming of SS Rajamouli's SSMB29 in Koraput has become a landmark event, with Priyanka Chopra and Mahesh Babu drawing global attention to Odisha's landscapes. Koraput's misty hills and tribal landscapes have attracted the Telugu film industry to Odisha.
Koraput district's Deomali peak (1,672m) offers African terrain-like visuals while Machhkund's waterfalls serve as dramatic backdrops. Apart from the shoots, the project has also boosted local employment.
Koraput, with its lush landscapes, tribal culture, and distinctive architecture, provides an ideal backdrop for showcasing Odisha’s diversity. This kind of exposure will attract not only tourists but also filmmakers to consider Odisha as a shooting destination in the future, further contributing to the local economy.
PM Modi’s Vision:
In addition, PM Modi's emphasis on promoting Odisha's tourism aligns perfectly with these efforts. His government's initiatives to improve infrastructure, such as better connectivity, and focus on preserving and promoting local art, culture, and heritage, are likely to further enhance Odisha’s image as a travel destination. Combining the allure of Bollywood and government support for tourism, Odisha’s visibility on the global platform is bound to rise.
Odisha Emphasising On Tourism:
Odisha's government is finalizing a film policy to revive the Odia film industry, offering financial support and infrastructure upgrades. Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain emphasized plans to achieve national recognition through subsidies and rural cinema development. The Odisha Film Development Corporation has allocated Rs 4.68 crore in subsidies since 2018, though critics argue for more substantial funding.
Meanwhile, Odisha Deputy CM Pravati Parida has welcomed other film industries to explore Odisha’s potential.
