72 Hoorain: Director gets death threats, his mother receives rape threats

The highly anticipated Indian movie, 72 Hoorain is all set for theatrical release on July 7. However, much before its release, the movie is in the headlines for various reasons. The movie, directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, is being condemned by some Islamic religious leaders as well as political figures. Even, several demanded to ban the movie. Now, as the release date is inching closer, the stir seems to be intensifying.

Helmer Sanjay has been bombarded with threats and abusive messages on social media a few days before the release of the much-anticipated movie. 

While the movie plot exposes the dark face of Islamic terrorism from 9/11 to 26/11, enraged Islamists have been abusing the filmmaker and mocking the Hindu religion. Several have also vowed to harm him physically. 

A user named Rashid Khan wrote, “Your good time has come…Mother fu*ker.” (sic)

One Hanzalah Shkk wrote, “Send your mother, son of a prostitute. Your religion is fu*ked and hence you are tarnishing our religion now.” (sic)

Several other Islamists also issued rape threats to Sanjay’s mother.

Following the constant abuses and threats, the comment section was turned off. 

Reacting to this, one radical wrote, “Why did you close your comment section? Are you afraid of us, Muslims? Good to see this fear for Muslims in you guys.” (sic)

Some other users also took the opportunity to abuse the Hindu faith of the director making references to Hinduphobic slurs such as ‘cow piss’ which was popularised by Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist Adil Ahmed Dar during the Pulwama suicide bombing attack.

Wishing the death of 72 Hoorain director, one Shabnam wrote, ““Assh*le, you will burn in jahannum (hellfire) and then you will know the truth. You just want to make a movie against Islam. No problem, just wait until you meet your end.” (sic)

Several other extremists also harassed him by making both audio and video calls on Instagram.

As per IMDb, 72 Hoorain is the most anticipated movie on a real-time popularity basis. Around 30.4% audiences are waiting for the release of this film leaving ‘Gadar 2’ behind. The movie stars Pavan Malhotra and Ameer Bashir in the lead roles. The movie first premiered at the 2019 International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and also won ICFT-UNESCO GANDHI Medal. Director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan also won the National Film Award for Best Direction in 2021. On July 7, the movie will simultaneously release in English and 10 other Indian languages.
