The advent of social media has made all celebrities very conscious and cautious. You will get very few actors who dare to speak their minds. The rest of the celebrities, even the likes of Salman Khan have now resorted to giving diplomatic answers that won’t trigger controversies or drag them in any kind of murk. But there were times when these celebrities were very much forthright and never hesitated to speak about what they believed in.

Lata Mangeshkar

She was always known to act and speak honestly although she was not much social. While everyone would think that she was fortunate to live the life of such a big singer, In one of her interviews, the Nightingale of India said that she does not want to be born again and if at all she gets another birth she will never want to be Lata Mangeshkar because “Lata Mangeshkar ki jo takliphe hai woh usko hi pata hai.”

Smita Patil

From giving a naked shot to openly slamming the film industry for using glamour to attract the audience at the cost of compromising the content, Smita Patil was one of the few actresses during the 70s and 80s who dared to tread a different path. Speaking on the controversy caused by the poster of her movie Chakra, the legendary actress said, “When the movie is sold in the commercial circuit, publicity goes into the hands of distributors. And more often it is forced on Indian audiences that this movie has sex and scantily clad women. This is one attitude which is highly deplorable.”

Dharmendra

The entire Deol family has been quite open and helped many people in the industry. They gave launch to big-time directors like Rajkumar Santoshi and Imtiaz Ali. But when it was time that the Deols needed support, they did not get it. And Dharmendra made his disappointment very clear saying, “Asaliyat toh samne aa hi jati hai.”

Rohit Shetty is known for giving high-action movies. Sooryavanshi released post-Corona was a big hit and had an antagonist who was a Muslim. When the director was questioned why his movie portrayed an antagonist who was particularly Muslim, Rohit hit back saying that many villains in his earlier films like Jayakant Shikre were Hindus but why it was not a problem then.

Akshay Kumar

Once during a round table interaction, actors like Irrfan Khan, Rajkummar Rao, and Ayushmann Khurrana shared the process they go into for getting into the skin of the character they are playing. While other actors suggested their intense process but it was Akki’s reply that was gold. Akshay Kumar said that when he gets the script he marks some 3 to 4 scenes that are absolutely important and rest of the scenes he does normally. But when the film comes on the screen, the rest of the scenes look better while the ones he has worked on the most are the worst ones.

Abhay Deol

After the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, many blind items floated in the press directed at various actors, producers, and directors under the disguise of anonymity. The Dev D actor has always been open about the hypocrisy in the film industry and called out leading journalist Rajeev Masand hypocrite for sharing blind items while targeting producers for creating formula movies.
