Amitabh Bachchan's Baritone Voice in Agneepath Was 'Rejected' by the Audience?
35 years ago, Agneepath was released on February 16. Though the movie initially bombed at the box office, gradually it became a cult classic. Amitabh Bachchan introducing himself as 'Vijay Dinanath Chauhan' in the movie remains iconic still after many years. While Amitabh Bachchan's baritone voice played a key role in shaping his career. Of course, fans were crazy about it. However, the audience did not receive his baritone voice in Agneepath well.

Recalling the same on the Kaun Banega Crorepati game show, Big B said, "There was a man who used to visit Kalyanji-Anandji’s (music composer duo) home with a similar heavy tone, so I thought, why not model Vijay’s voice after him? Later, I found out that the man came from an underground background, which fit the essence of Vijay’s character perfectly. So, the character’s first shot was inspired by him."
Further, he added, "When the movie released, the producer called to say theatres were having issues. Audiences were tearing up seats and telling the sound department, ‘This doesn’t sound like Amitabh; fix the sound system!’ So, to address it, I had to re-dub the whole film in my normal voice. But that initial voice was very impactful.”
