27 years of ‘Yes Boss’
It was exactly on this day in 1997, Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster movie ‘Yes Boss’ was released and catapulted him to a superstar. Over the years, it has earned the status of cult classic and is known for predicting Shah Rukh Khan’s stardom with the song ‘Chaand Tare’.
Directed by Aziz Mirza, the film also starred Juhi Chawla, and Aditya Pancholi in the lead roles. It proved to be one of the most successful films of the year and grossed a worldwide collected of Rs 23 crore.
As the film completes 27 years, here are a few unknown, interesting facts about the film:
1. Javed Akhtar inadvertently predicted Shah Rukh Khan's future while writing the song "Chaand Taare" as most lines in the song are now true as Shah Rukh Khan is now a global superstar and one of the most popular and richest actors in the entire world.
2. Song Chand Taare was shot in front of Mannat when SRK was not owner of mannat after when he became star he own mannat.
3. The film was previously titled " Mohabbat Isko Kehte Hain". It is based on the film For Love Or Money (1993) starring Michael J Fox.
4. At the 43rd Filmfare Awards, it received 6 nominations, including Best Actor (Khan), Best Actress (Chawla) and Best Villain (Pancholi), and won Best Male Playback Singer (Abhijeet Bhattacharya for "Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon")
5. Gulshan Grover first discussed the script of The Second Jungle Book: Mowgli & Baloo (1997) on the film sets with Shahrukh Khan. Khan advised him to take a first flight to US and sign the film. But Gulshan was worried that producer of the film might sue him or cut his pay. But Shahrukh Khan told him will take care of any situation but he should go and sign this Hollywood film.
6. Writer Sanjay Chell stated,"Naseeruddin Shah was originally offered the role of the boss. I don't remember exactly but he was not comfortable as he thought he was a bit old for the character. He also had some reservations about the script.
7. In the song Jaata Hai Tu Kahan, Shah Rukh Khan pays homage to Amitabh Bachchan by wrapping a cloth round his head and eat the Indian betal leaf (paan) imitating the Kaike Paan Banaras Wala song from the 1978 movie Don.
8. Yes Boss partially inspired the Malayalam film Junior Senior (2005) and was remade in Tamil as Guru En Aalu (2009).
