2023 was year of comebacks: Shah Rukh Khan to Rajinikanth, stars who re-launched their careers

The year 2023 saw the re-emergence of many yesteryear stars as superstars as they reclaimed stardom with smashing performances.

Most of these movies were blockbusters and got back the business of Bollywood on track.

Shah Rukh Khan Bounced Back with Pathaan & Jawan

Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan was released at the start of 2023 and touched the never-before collection figures of 1000 crore. The YRF-produced flick not only brought back mullah to the struggling Bollywood industry but it also was the biggest comeback ever of a superstar struggling for a hit for more than 5 years.

Jawan released in September 2023 repeated the same feat and excelled Pathaan in some ways confirming that SRK is indeed back. The fans are expecting the same magic as Shah Rukh’s next movie titled Dunki is all set to hit the theaters on December 21, 2023.

Sunny Deol Created a Miracle with Gadar 2

Sunny Deol was a big star during the 80s and 90s and gave some big hits like Ghayal, Damini, Arjun, Gadar, and many more. He won two National Awards and was considered the best among the lot of Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Jackie Shroff.

However, his stardom suddenly diminished, and the last decade and more saw him struggle to deliver even a single hit. That changed in 2023 when Gadar 2 was released. The Anil Sharma-directed sequel to Sunny Deol’s earlier big hit Gadar crossed 500 crore collection and even surpassed Jawan’s collection in the domestic circuit.

It was also a sort of comeback movie for Ameesha Patel who has not given a single decent hit in the last more than 10 years.

Bobby Deol is Once Again a Big Star

Since making his debut with Barsaat, Bobby Deol has delivered some big hits like Soldier and Gupt. But somehow he could not hold on to the stardom and keep pace with the industry. Slowly he was almost ousted from the main league. It was Salman Khan’s phone call that made him return to the film industry with Race 3.

And from then started his struggle once again. It was the OTT series Aashram that gave a new lease to Bobby Deol’s career. And now as the lead antagonist in Animal, the actor has proved that he is here to play a long innings this time.

Dharmendra returned to mainstream cinema at the age of 87 with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. Interestingly, his liplock with veteran actress Shabana Azmi was a big topic of discussion on social media. He seems to be eager to work more and will be next seen with Amitabh Bachchan and Agastya Nanda in the film directed by Sriram Raghavan.

Jailer Rejuvenated Career of Rajinikanth

Jailer was one of the biggest Tamil hits of 2023 that also surpassed Mani Ratnam’s PS2. Although Rajinikanth has always been a big superstar and has managed to keep hold of his stardom for over four decades now, he did need a blockbuster to once again prove his stardom and Jailer just did that and much more for Thalaiva.
