Cannes International Festival 2023 had lots of Indian celebrities walking the red carpet. While earlier the number of Bollywood beauties gracing the red carpet was just a few, this year apart from the regulars, there were many others who made their entry at the French Riveria even when they had no movie releases.
From Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Sara Ali Khan to Diana Penty, Sunny Leone, and even Shark Tank fame Aman Gupta were a part of the red carpet appearances.
While earlier it was only the class and actors who had releases at the esteemed International Film Festival who walked the red carpet, this year the number of celebs with no releases was much more making netizens question the authenticity of this film festival.
A few even said that Cannes has lost all its class and is now just a popular destination for launching movies and representing global brands. Some comments like, “Cannes to Wasepur bana diya hai is baar India ne” or “Bhai yeh Cannes hai ya koi bhandara har koi yahi hai “reveal how the festival has now become more for the masses than the classes as it was earlier looked upon.
And now Bollywood’s famous actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has said that taking movies to Cannes is easy. Sharing the hack for getting your movie screened at Cannes, Nawazuddin said that you can take the film to the film festival irrespective of whether it is officially selected or not.
According to Nawaz, producers and directors simply book auditoriums, lay down their own red carpet, and make the lead stars from the film walk the red carpet, click photos, and share them everywhere saying that the film was screened at Cannes Film Festival.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been to Cannes a couple of times and said that during his outings he was surprised to find people with no releases at the film festival and even asked them how come you are here and no one knew where their movies were being screened.
