Berhampur: With the arrest of eight persons, the police on Friday claimed to have solved a four-month old murder case near Sheragada in Ganjam district.

All these persons of Sunanthara village were allegedly involved in the murder of Krushna Swain (40) on December 19, last year, police said. The deceased belonged to the same village, police said.

The arrested persons included the mastermind Kalia alias Niranjan Jena, dubbed as the Surat Don. The police also seized a four-wheeler from them and two swords, used to kill the deceased, they said.

The other accused were Hiranya Jena, Iswara Jena, Kalia Gouda, Hina Jena, Nira Barada, Silu Pradhan and the driver of the vehicle Krushna Jena

A special police squad was formed to investigate the matter, while the accused were arrested from different places including Berhampur, inspector in charge (Sheragada) P K Sahu said.

Police said the accused persons were doing illegal liquor business at Surat in Gujarat and the deceased used to collect money from them every month. The murder was believed to have taken place following a dispute over the matter, they said.
