The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued an important notice regarding the refund policy 2022-23 and hostel fees. The higher education regulator has directed higher educational institutions to refund full fee to students who cancel their admissions or migrate to a different institute on or before October 31.
The order has been issued in order to avoid financial hardships being faced by parents. “It has been decided by UGC that full refund of fees should be made by the higher educational institutions on account of all cancellations of admissions/ migrations of students upto October 31, 2022 for the academic session 2022-23 as a special case,” the notice read.
The UGC has categorically stated that the entire fee, including all charges, should be refunded (there should be zero cancellation charges) on account of cancellations/migrations up to October 31.
“Thereafter on cancellation/withdrawal of admissions up to December 31, 2022, the entire fee collected from a student should be refunded in full after deducting not more than Rs 1,000 as processing fee,” the UGC notice read.
It is pertinent to mention here that the UGC had issued guidelines on examination and academic calendar in view of Covid-19 pandemic on July 16, 2021.
On July 12, 2022 the UGC had asked Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to fix the last date of their undergraduate admission process after declaration of results of Class 12 by CBSE so as to provide sufficient time to students for admissions.
The latest decision has also been taken keeping in mind the fact that several entrance examinations including CUET, JEE Main, JEE Advanced have been delayed for which admissions may continue up to October 2022
