Schools are the learning hub and the first picture one gets when thinking of a school is students rushing out of the gate after the bell rings calling it a day. But, what would be the scenario in a school that runs for only one student? Moreover, the school is run by a single teacher… Isn’t this surprising?
Though hard to believe, it is true. There is a Zilla Parishad Primary School in Ganeshpur village of Maharashtra that is run by Kishore Mankar, a teacher. And, the school has only one student in the last two years.
Ganeshpur, located at a 22-kilometer distance from Maharashtra’s Washim district, is sparsely populated with only 150 persons.
As Manak says, he has been teaching at this school for the last two years and only one student has enrolled till date. “In the last two years, only one student has got enrolled and I am teaching him since then.”
“From 10:30 am to 12 pm, I follow all the rules and regulations including singing the national anthem. Other facilities being provided for the student by the government are being also fulfilled. From class commencement to lunch breaks, everything is done as per the rules,” he added.
While Manak shows up every day on his bike after travelling 12 km just to teach the student, Kartik, the student, also never misses a single day. Manak teaches him all subjects.
Not just education, the school also provides Kartik mid-day meals. Thanks to Manak who is taking all pain to carry out his duty even for a single child.
