The Odisha government on Friday reduced the residency period, thereby paving way for the promotion of 63,303 primary teachers in the State.
The order has been executed following directions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. While announcing the decision, Patnaik also sought help of the teachers to work unitedly towards improving the quality of education in the State.
The reduction in the residency period will not only help promote thousands of primary teachers but at the same time it will also pave way for filling up the vacancies of teachers in the upper primary level.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has said that he hopes for a massive turnaround in the management of schools following the promotion of primary teachers.
The implementation of such proposal will facilitate the promotion of 29,759 assistant teachers, who are presently at V (A) level, to V (B) level.
As per a notification issued by the office of the Chief Minister, 29, 759 senior teachers (V-B Level) will now be promoted to level-IV. Similarly, 3785 headmasters (level-IV) will be promoted to level-III by September 2021.
Senior officials said that the residency period for assistant teachers has been reduced to six months from the existing one year. The residency period for getting promotion to level III from level IV has been reduced to 1 year from 2 years.
