Leeza Majhi, the daughter of an Odisha tribal farmer, cleared the NEET UG and earned admission at the Sundargarh Government Medical College and Hospital.

She began her academic journey at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Bamra in 2021. Later, she completed her matriculation at Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV) in Bamra, securing 82 per cent marks.

From OAV Bamra to Bhubaneswar

Following her impressive performance, Leeza was selected to pursue Science at the OAV Iconic in Bhubaneswar. She went on to achieve 81.6 per cent in her Class 12 board examinations, according to an official statement.

Her consistent effort and determination culminated in success when she qualified NEET, thereby fulfilling her long-cherished dream of becoming a doctor, the statement added.

Role of KGBV in Shaping Her Path

Expressing her gratitude, Leeza credited the KGBV in Bamra for providing her with free residential education, mentoring, and holistic support that guided her academic journey.

KGBVs are residential schools established by the Centre to offer quality education to underprivileged and out-of-school adolescent girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.

"Leeza's success is not just an individual triumph, but a symbol of hope for countless girls across rural Odisha. Her journey from the KGBV to the medical college shows that education is the most powerful tool of empowerment," a KGBV official said to PTI.
