As many as 638 lecturers were handed over appointment letters in the first phase on Tuesday. In the second phase, 292 more candidates will be given appointment letters.
The Odisha State Selection Board had appointed 1,510 lecturers in 2015-16 and 2016-17. The number of appointments was 809 in 2020. This year, the State SSB is expected to appoint 972 lecturers.
Putting them together, a total of 3291 lecturers have been appointed so far.
While the maximum appointment has been made in Commerce (126), the following subjects are Economics (76), Logic and Philosophy (70), Chemistry and Zoology (55 each), Botany (49), Education (48), Mathematics and Physics (40 each), Psychology (22), Sanskrit (19), Sociology (14), Home Science (13), Anthropology (11) and Statistics (one).
In the second phase, 150, 112 and 30 candidates will be issued appointment letters for English, Political Science and Other subjects respectively.
While 606 candidates were appointed at government colleges, the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) is looking after the appointment procedure of 504 associate professors, 320 assistant professors and 183 professors in Universities. Similarly, the appointment process of 385 lecturers in B.Ed by the OPSC is underway.
In the past three years, several steps were taken to appoint 4,255 candidates for lecturer posts. While appointment letters have so far been given to 2,081 candidates, the process is underway for the rest.
After filling up these posts, the vacant posts will be filled up after receiving the list.
