The post-graduate students of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur on Tuesday launched cease work agitation protesting inordinate delay in NEET-PG counselling, adversely affecting the healthcare services at the facility.
The first and second year students of MBBS course at the institute withdrew from outdoor and indoor services and academic activities, alleging that they are facing many difficulties due to the delay in the PG counselling.
The protesters held placards with ‘No more delay, enough is enough. We are exhausted. We want justice’ written on them. However, emergency services remained unaffected.
The protesting students said that they submitted a letter to the dean yesterday informing about stopping of routine services and academic activities before sitting on the dharna today. There are post PG students and senior resident doctors who are now looking after the healthcare services.
“The protest is going is for about one month, but the government seems less concerned about our plight. One third of the working force is there. Definitely there is a lots of pressure on us in providing healthcare services to the patients,” said an agitating student.
The students also condemned the action of police on the protesting doctors in Delhi yesterday.
“The incident happened in Delhi is not acceptable and we strongly condemned it,” said another protesting student.
Earlier in the day, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) called for a complete withdrawal from all healthcare services across the country from 8 am on December 29 protesting against alleged ‘brute force by Delhi Police against doctors.’
Recently, hundreds of Post-Graduate students of the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack had staged similar protest against the delay in NEET-PG counselling.
